West Ham United v Arsenal - Premier League

Manchester United are at risk of losing out on Matheus Fernandes, who Tottenham are also interested in signing. The midfielder has been heavily linked with a potential move to Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick keen to strengthen the engine room this summer. United have already agreed a deal for Atalanta playmaker Ederson, but are also reportedly keen on signing Fernandes.

It is reported that personal terms have already been agreed with the 21-year-old, who is widely expected to leave West Ham following their relegation to the Championship. However, it appears Tottenham may be well placed to swoop in and sign him. The Sun reports that this is because they are willing to offer him a higher salary than the Red Devils.

The north Londoner is reportedly ready to beat United’s package and gain a decisive advantage in negotiations.

The Hammers are said to be demanding a transfer fee of around £80 million to part ways with the Portuguese youth international this summer. He is currently thought to be earning around £60,000 a week at the London Stadium.

Tottenham could have the upper hand in the race to sign Fernandes in the coming weeks, given their willingness to pay him a higher wage.

However, it could also be of great benefit to United by resolving issues unrelated to Carrick ahead of the new season.

They are interested in bringing Marcus Rashford to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the England international set to leave United between now and the start of the new campaign.

He currently earns around £325,000 a week, which United need to take off their books so they can reinvest it in other areas of the squad.

Tottenham are reportedly willing to meet Rashford’s salary demands, meaning he will not be forced to accept a pay cut.

However, other reports suggest that he currently has no intention of moving to another Premier League club and would prefer to move overseas.

It remains to be seen whether Rashford will be convinced to sign with Tottenham, who are in dire need of reinforcements following last season’s relegation scare.

If this proposal materializes, it would be hugely beneficial for United, who originally thought they had enough to sign Rashford two seasons ago.

His contract included a £26m buyout clause that would have allowed him to join Barcelona on loan last season, but the Catalan giants decided not to trigger it.

Rashford currently has a release clause of £40m at Old Trafford, which Tottenham could trigger to avoid negotiations at club level.
