Trevor Chalobah was given a late call-up to England’s World Cup squad, which completely changed the course of his summer, with a holiday in Los Angeles already booked.

England’s Trevor Chalobah has admitted he is still trying to recoup the money he spent on vacation after being called up for the World Cup.
The defender was contacted by manager Thomas Tuchel when Tino Livramento was injured and is now part of the Three Lions squad. The Chelsea star was on holiday after a long season in the Premier League, but his form with the Blues earned him a spot on England’s first shortlist of 55 World Cup squads.
Chalobá did not feature in Tuchel’s final 26 games but was quickly called up after the Newcastle star ended his summer with injury. He was in New York at the time, but never imagined playing in a tournament.
Chalobah, who was planning to go from the West Coast to the East Coast of the United States, had booked a trip to Los Angeles. However, that was stripped away after being called up by the England squad.
“I can’t say I was ready, but I was already on vacation in New York, just planning my vacation, I wasn’t thinking about the World Cup,” Charova said.
“I just got the email on Monday and it was a surprise, but I was ready. When I got the news at the end of the season whether I was going to be selected or not, he said, ‘It’s coming.’ I was disappointed that I couldn’t make it, but he said, ‘Stay ready.’ So I managed to get a few sessions here and there, but it was really more about enjoying the holidays.”
“I was scheduled to fly to New York and then Los Angeles, but obviously I had to cancel because I got the message on Monday. I’m still trying to get my money back.”

Chalova was so preoccupied with her vacation that she actually missed a call from Tuchel, leaving the England manager unavailable for a number of hours. The Chelsea man was wandering around Times Square before learning the news that changed the direction of his summer.
“I was literally in Times Square. I went to the store to buy something. It wasn’t until I got back to the hotel that I found out Thomas was texting, and that was two hours ago,” he added.
“I didn’t see any messages for two hours. I wasn’t using my phone. I was just walking down the street. When I got back to the hotel and looked at my phone, he was asking if he could call me. My heart just dropped.”
