Manchester United will be looking to build on the momentum they have built under manager Michael Carrick and get off to a fast start to the Premier League.
Manchester United will start the 2026-27 Premier League season away to newly promoted Hull City. United finished last season on a high note under manager Michael Carrick and will be hoping to continue that momentum when they face the Championship play-off winners on Saturday, August 22nd, kick-off at 12.30pm.
The Red Devils finished third last season, the highest-placed side behind Arsenal and Manchester City, but their impressive post-Christmas form has earned them an asterisk in the eyes of some. A minimalist list of games and the performance of a new coach were cited as reasons for the improved results.
United have lost their opening game in the Premier League in two of the last four seasons, losing to Brighton in 2022 and Arsenal last season. A quick start will be vital if they want to build on the momentum they established last term, so they may be happy to play against Hull and Ipswich in their first two games.
United, no doubt buoyed by their new players and with the club set to hit the market once again to acquire the players Carrick needs to compete on multiple fronts, have spoken of their desire to not only qualify for the Champions League but also challenge for the league title. As a result, matches against Arsenal, City and potentially Liverpool will all be key – United beat all three of them last season.
