Mirror Football can shed light on beer, water and food prices at Texas’ Dallas Stadium, where Engando take on Croatia in Wednesday’s World Cup opener
England supporters who attended Wednesday’s World Cup opener against Croatia in Dallas are facing exorbitant prices for food and drink at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium.
Sunday’s Group F opener between the Netherlands and Japan provided the first glimpse of that cost, but compared to other World Cup host cities, it’s not as fun to read.
A pint (16 oz) of regular draft beer costs $18.50 (£13.84), while “American Beer” costs $15.95 (£11.93).
Even non-alcoholic beer (16oz) costs fans $16.95 (£12.68).
Meanwhile, a basic 20-ounce bottle of water costs $8.25 (approximately £6.20), but all fans will be allowed to bring one factory-sealed, soft plastic, disposable bottle to World Cup matches in the United States and Canada.
However, upon arriving at Dallas Stadium, Mirror Football can reveal that supporters were asked to remove the caps from their bottles.
So how do these prices compare to arenas like Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium? In the USMNT’s 4-1 win over Paraguay, water cost $5.25 (£3.93) and a “premium American draft beer”, which is not an option in Dallas, cost $18.50 (£13.84).
At Boston’s Gillette Stadium, where England will play Ghana in the second group game (prices are Scotland vs. Haiti), water costs $7 (£5.24), more expensive than in Dallas.
Incredibly, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where England will face Panama in the Group L final match on Saturday 27 June, water subject to change (prices quoted from Brazil vs Morocco) will cost $5 (£3.74), meaning it is the cheapest.
Beer is also cheap there. For example, a beer in the US costs $16 (£11.97).
The reason alcohol prices vary from stadium to stadium is because commercial partnerships and government legislation are taken into account. In Qatar, beer rang out in the halls.
Food at Dallas Stadium is understandably expensive. The crisps, better known as chips, cost backers $7 (£5.24).
Dallas Nachos cost $16 (£11.95), while chicken tenders and fries cost $16.75 (£12.53). Fries alone cost $8 (£5.99), but surprisingly, chicken nuggets cost $23.00 (£17.15).
