Japan national team midfielder Wataru Endo, who was forced to withdraw from the national team, has announced that he will also withdraw from international soccer.
The 33-year-old, who announced the sad news on X (formerly Twitter), said he had “done everything he could” after the injury, adding: “I have no regrets.” Wataru said, “I have done everything I could since my injury, so I have no regrets.
“Obviously I’m disappointed not to be able to participate in the World Cup, but even more than that, I’m proud that I’ve been able to lead the team as captain since the Qatar World Cup, and that we’ve grown into a group that can take for granted “winning the World Cup.”
“The current team is truly a great team. I believe they will overcome any adversity and show us something we have never seen before.”
