AC Milan have sacked manager Max Allegri after a disappointing Serie A season, with former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim also on the list of candidates.
Ruben Amorim has also been mentioned as a candidate to take over at AC Milan, while another former Premier League manager is also on the shortlist.
The former Manchester United manager was sacked from his job in January, bringing an end to an underwhelming spell at Old Trafford. Prior to that, Amorim built an impressive reputation with Sporting Lisbon, winning a number of titles.
He has been out of work for six months but could now work with one of Europe’s most decorated teams, as Milan are looking for a new manager and are preparing to make contact with several people. They sacked manager Max Allegri at the end of the Serie A season and have a number of people on their radar.
As well as Amorim, San Siro bosses are keeping an eye on Oliver Glasner, who is also unemployed. The Austrian only recently left Crystal Palace when his contract expired, but he improved his form by winning the Conference League title.
Glasner won three trophies during his time with the Eagles, making him the most successful manager in club history. His achievements at Selhurst Park mean he will not be short of offers.
Matthias Jaisul, who currently manages Al Ahly, is the third player Milan are reportedly preparing to sign. The German player won several league titles with Red Bull Salzburg before moving to Saudi Arabia. There he won the Saudi Cup and the AFC Champions League Elite twice.
Milan’s summer of change came after a shocking end to the season, in which they lost 2-1 to Cagliari on the final day, dropping from third to fifth place. This means Milan have missed out on the Champions League for the second year in a row.
Inter Milan, Napoli, Roma and mid-table Como all finished in the top half, with Milan having to qualify for the Europa League. Nevertheless, Allegri, who won Serie A with the Rossoneri in 2011, paid for that failure with his job.
“For most of this season we were in the top two in Serie A and had a solid chance of competing for the Scudetto,” club owners Redbird Capital said.
“The final development was completely inconsistent with previous performances and with last night’s disappointing loss in the final game, the season ended in a clear failure. It is now time for a change.”
