Ben Davies has signed a new one-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur despite suffering a serious ankle injury in January that will see him miss the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
Tottenham have announced that Ben Davies has signed a new one-year contract with the club, while Yves Bissouma is set to leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
Davies, 33, faced the possibility of becoming a free agent at the end of June, but Spurs opted to give him new terms, agreeing to keep him at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the 2026/27 season.
The Welshman has been at Spurs since 2014, joining from Swansea City, and established himself as a cult hero during his time in north London, making 363 appearances and playing a role in the side that lifted the Europa League last season.
Meanwhile, Bissouma, 29, joined Spurs from Brighton in 2022 for £30 million and made 111 appearances for the club. Like Davies, the Malian international played a key role in Tottenham’s Europa League win and was a key player in the final against Manchester United.
Bissouma had flashes of brilliance during his time in N17, but lacked consistency and Spurs allowed him to leave for free when his contract expires this month.
Bissouma, once hailed as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, is one of 11 players to leave Spurs when their current contracts expire, along with Pere Arganese-McDermott, Tyrell Ashcroft, Leo Black, Dante Casanova, Matthew Craig, Callum Logan, Jamel Beggs, Samar Bangura, Leon Mirtaj and Elijah Upson.
As for Davies, there were growing concerns that his time at Tottenham was over after he suffered a serious ankle injury in the 2-1 defeat at West Ham in mid-January. He required two surgeries to correct the problem and missed the rest of the season, missing the final 22 games.
Davies made just five appearances for Tottenham throughout the 2025-26 campaign, having been sidelined for more than a month with a hamstring injury at the start of the season.
It remains unclear whether Davies will be available from the start of the new season, but his influence in the dressing room will undoubtedly be valuable, especially with the younger members of the squad.
After signing his new contract with Tottenham, Davies told the club’s website: “Tottenham Hotspur truly feels like home. It’s been a huge part of my footballing life and I’m grateful for what the club has given me during my career so far.”
“The last few months have been difficult for me as I have not been able to help the team on the pitch due to my injuries. So I tried to ease the suffering of the players as much as I could, I spoke up in the dressing room and around the group and contributed in any way I could.”
“My heart is for this club and I will give everything for this club.
