Florentino Pérez won a landslide victory in the Real Madrid presidential election last weekend, making a major move toward Jose Mourinho’s reappointment.
Real Madrid have announced that Alvaro Arbeloa has left the club, paving the way for Jose Mourinho to return. Arbeloa was expected to leave for a while after a disappointing season in which the Spanish giants ended the season without a trophy.
Mourinho is being looked at as a possible replacement for him, with Real reportedly terminating his contract with former club Benfica. And now that Los Blancos manager has confirmed Arbeloa’s transfer, his return seems to have taken a big step forward.
“Real Madrid CF and Álvaro Arbeloa have reached an agreement to end his role as first-team coach,” the statement said.
“Real Madrid is deeply grateful to Álvaro Arbeloa for the loyalty, dedication and professionalism he has consistently shown throughout his time at the club, from his time in the youth academy. He embodies the values of our club.”

“Real Madrid, which will always be his home, wishes Alvaro Arbeloa and his entire family the best of luck in this new phase of his life.”
Arbeloa replaced Xabi Alonso in January, but his successor had only been in the job for a few months. However, the change did not cause a turnaround in fortunes.
Real finished second in La Liga, missing out on the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. The latest changes at the club come just days after Florentino Perez won the election as club president.
He confirmed he would appoint Mourinho a second time during his re-election campaign. “We won the election and we will continue to strive to win titles. I am still here and I am here to defend Real Madrid,” Perez said.
“We will continue to strive for Real Madrid to continue winning titles and will continue to fight until the end to win the 16th European Cup. We will continue to be proud of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the best stadium in the world.”
“We are proud to have the best players in the world and we are proud to welcome back a Madrid player like Jose Mourinho, who is one of the best managers in the world. And rest assured, as I am president, Real Madrid has always been, is and always will be the property of our members.”
The latest drama also comes after Real announced their intercity rivals had rejected a huge bid for Atletico Madrid striker Julián Álvarez.
