Christian Eriksen is ‘doing well’ after collapsing on the pitch for the second time while playing for Denmark, but former teammate Harry Kane has expressed serious concerns

Harry Kane was horrified to hear about his collapse but contacted former teammate Christian Eriksen to wish him well. Eriksen fell to the ground and briefly lost consciousness during Sunday’s friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine.

There were major concerns for the 34-year-old midfielder as he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for the national team in 2021. Eriksen was later fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and was able to resume his playing career.

The ICD did its job on Sunday after Eriksen collapsed and was sent off the pitch in the 65th minute of a friendly. He spent time in the hospital recovering and was discharged from the hospital on Monday to return home.

Eriksen then released a statement thanking the medical workers who helped him and reassuring fans that he was “doing well” and explaining that he would need time to recover and be with his family. Kane played alongside Eriksen at Tottenham for seven years and was initially horrified when he heard what had happened.

“I just contacted him today,” the England captain told ITV. “We haven’t heard anything back from Chris yet, but obviously he put out a statement saying he’s going to leave and rest and spend time with his family. I think that’s important.”

“Obviously he’s going to have some decisions to make over the next few months, but the important thing is that the defibrillator was there and it worked. I think that’s scary because we all remember what it was like the last time it happened.”

“And I think it’s the same with his family and his wife Sabrina. To be honest, it was a scary moment when we arrived and saw the news. Of course, it’s calmed down a little bit now, obviously because it seemed like he was okay and everything was going as planned. I just wish him well and I’m sure we’ll catch up soon.”

Eriksen made his 151st appearance for Denmark on Sunday in a friendly at Odense’s Nature Energy Park. There are also suggestions that he may choose to retire after the second horrific incident of his career.

“I want to let everyone know that I’m fine and at home with my family,” Eriksen wrote on Instagram.

“As you can imagine, the shock from the ICD has had a huge impact on both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone that this is a different situation than what happened in 2021. I am feeling well and have already begun my recovery.

“In addition to thanking all the players on the field and the medical team for their support and assistance, I am also extremely grateful to the doctors who have taken care of me and my heart over the years.

“Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly its intended purpose of protecting me when I needed it. For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation, and playing soccer with my kids.”
