Erling Haaland has been at the center of drama over the past week with rumors of a sensational move to Real Madrid, but now his former club Borussia Dortmund are speaking out.
Erling Haaland will be playing for Real Madrid within three years, Borussia Dortmund’s famous manager has claimed. The Manchester City forward has found himself at the center of serious speculation in recent days.
Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has promised to take the Norwegian forward to the Bernabéu if he wins.
“We have signed a guarantee that if we break our commitments regarding any of these players, we will pay 100% of next season’s fees. Haaland has a release clause and he wants to come to Madrid,” he told Spanish television.
Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke has given his opinion on the situation, insisting that he is confident Haaland will be playing for the Spanish giants in the near future, even if it doesn’t happen next season.

“I know very well what he (Haaland) thinks. I can tell you that he certainly admires Real Madrid and wants to play for Real Madrid in the future, but he will continue to play for Manchester City next season, for sure.”
“He loves Real Madrid and he doesn’t try to hide it. I think he will play for Real Madrid in two or three years, but not right away. As his father said, he is not committed to anyone.”
Haaland only signed a new nine-and-a-half year contract with Man City in January last year, which was due to run until 2034. The Premier League issued a statement following Riquelme’s claims, confirming that they are considering legal action.
“The stories coming out of Spain regarding Erling Haaland’s future are false. There is no chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause that would allow it to happen. We are considering legal action against the use of the player’s image in this context,” it read.
Meanwhile, his agent Rafaela Pimenta and father Alfie Haaland also suggested there was no truth to the rumors. “This is all very interesting, but not true. We wish both candidates the best of luck in the Madrid elections,” the statement said.
Riquelme later spoke out about Haaland again, insisting that negotiations with Haaland’s camp would begin immediately if she wins Sunday’s election. “This is normal. This is an election. There are two candidates who are not guaranteed to win, but they have to protect the players. Starting Monday, we will talk and sit down and talk.”
