Manchester United’s future could look very different as some members of the Glazer family are reportedly willing to cash in on their shares in the Red Devils, but Sheikh Jassim will not be moved

It has been revealed that the Qatari group that wanted to buy Manchester United in 2023 will not make a new bid. A consortium led by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani attempted to complete a full takeover of Old Trafford three years ago after current owners the Glazer family encouraged the offer.

They ultimately failed and instead INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed a partial takeover for around £1.3bn. It has been suggested that the ownership of the club is once again in question.

Bloomberg reported that some members of the Glaser family were willing to sell themselves and were trying to encourage others to join. This has led to speculation as to who might be on the move.

Sheikh Jassim and his group of Qataris have always been linked, but a new venture may not materialize. According to Mail Online, the group still has “scars” from its previous attempt to buy the Red Devils and said a takeover would be “very unlikely”.

This is despite Sheikh Jassim’s emphasis on his plans to get United back on track after years of struggle. In his 2023 statement, he said: “This bid is designed to restore the club to its former glory both on and off the pitch and, above all, will aim to put the fans back at the heart of Manchester United Football Club.

“This bid is completely debt-free through Sheikh Jassim’s NineTwo Foundation and will seek to invest in the football team, training center, stadium and wider infrastructure, fan experience and the community the club supports.

“The vision for the bid is for Manchester United Football Club to be renowned for its outstanding football and to be regarded as the greatest football club in the world. Details of the bid will be published in due course once the bidding process progresses.”

It was confirmed that there was regret that no progress could be made in reaching an agreement in 2024. “In an ideal world, we might have paid a little more to get it done,” said a representative from the Qatar organization.

“But we had already done it so many times. We felt like we were being taken advantage of and the goalposts were constantly changing. It felt like we were already over the top.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s time at Old Trafford has been criticized in the past. Although it has left fans dissatisfied, significant staff cuts have stabilized the club in terms of its financial outlook. Frequent managerial changes have also caused supporters to become dissatisfied.
