Liverpool are set to announce Andoni Iraola as Arne Slott’s replacement and are also busy in the transfer market as they look to replace Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool are believed to have made contact with RB Leipzig to discuss signing Yann Diomande in the summer transfer window. Diomande has attracted a lot of interest following his impressive debut with Leipzig, with Liverpool facing plenty of competition.
Diomande has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists in 36 games for Leipzig in the 2025-26 season. The 19-year-old only joined Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes in July for €20m (about £17m) and has a contract until June 2030.
Recognizing their talent, the German side put a price tag of 130 million euros (approximately £112 million) on the Ivorian international. However, interest remains, with Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain the most concrete links, with Manchester City also showing interest.
Reports in France earlier this week suggested that Diomande had agreed personal terms with PSG, but Liverpool are not out of the question. And The Athletic reports that the Reds are in the strongest position to make contact with Leipzig to move the ball and sign him.

However, there are major challenges to overcome. Leipzig are unwilling to sell this summer and Liverpool are reluctant to pay a £112m fee after shelling out more than £450m last summer, including huge fees for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
Diomande’s contract with Leipzig does not have a release clause, so there is no guarantee he will make a big deal this summer. However, one thing that works in Liverpool’s favor is the obvious gap in the squad following Mohamed Salah’s departure.
PSG have Juvica Kvaratschelia, Ousmane Dembele, Desire Douye and Bradley Barcola in their squad, but Liverpool lack options in wide positions. Milos Kerkes could cover for Andy Robertson’s departure, and Jeremy Jaquet has been signed to replace the departing Ibrahima Konate, but there is currently no player to replace Salah.
The Reds are set to announce the appointment of Andoni Iraola as Arne Slott’s replacement, but the former Bournemouth manager knows they need reinforcements to revamp a team that could only finish fifth in the Premier League.
Diomande was the Bundesliga’s Young Player of the Season and would fit into Fenway Sports Group’s recruiting strategy given his youth and talent. Iraola has a strong history of developing top young players at Bournemouth, which is one reason sporting director Richard Hughes is keen to reunite him on Merseyside.
“My contract here runs until 2030, so I have four years left,” Diomand said last month when asked about transfer speculation. “What will happen after that? I don’t know. I’m a Leipzig player.
“I will never forget this opportunity. It’s not just about playing football, but the club has helped me a lot off the pitch. The media only sees me on the pitch, but the club has helped me a lot with my family and my mother. The only thing I can do for them is to give everything on the pitch and this is what I try to do every day.”
