Sir Alex Ferguson missed Manchester United’s home game at Liverpool after being taken to hospital as a precaution in May.
Manchester United’s iconic former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made his first public appearance since suffering health concerns on May 3. The Scot was due to feature in United’s game against Liverpool before being taken to hospital as a precaution.
The 84-year-old was taken by ambulance about an hour before United’s match against their arch-rivals, but it was not deemed an emergency. Ferguson was later released to continue his recovery at home.
The Premier League icon was pictured smiling and snapping with supporters at a restaurant in Wilmslow, Manchester. Fergie appeared in good spirits after taking a picture with football enthusiast Vimal Devasi and sharing the image online.
The restaurant employee shared the photo to his Instagram profile and wrote a heartfelt message mentioning his admiration for one of Sir Alex’s former players, Cristiano Ronaldo. “Not all photos tell a story. Some photos capture emotions. It’s not like I was shaking just because I met a football legend,” he said.

“I was shaking as I stood next to the man who helped shape the life of my idol Cristiano Ronaldo. I’m not a big Manchester United fan, but my admiration for Sir Alex Ferguson and the special relationship he had with Ronaldo has always inspired me.”
“I’ll never forget this moment. Thank you, Sir Alex.”
Ferguson is widely considered United’s greatest ever manager, winning 13 Premier League titles during his tenure, as well as two Champions League trophies and countless domestic accolades. He stepped down in 2013 after 26 years at the helm.
Speaking to The Sun about her encounter with the legendary Scotsman, Bimal added: “I met him at my restaurant and before I left I asked him if I could take a picture with him.”
“He happily agreed and I was really grateful. It was a simple but special moment that I will always remember.”
League Managers’ Association chief executive Richard Bevan said Ferguson was unable to attend the annual awards ceremony but was “on the mend”. The former Aberdeen manager has written to Frank Lampard, winner of the manager of the year award, after England manager Thomas Tuchel intervened in the awarding of the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy.
Tuchel said: “Of course, the situation would not be the same without Sir Alex himself. We wish him all the best and wish him a speedy recovery so that we can be on stage together again next year. Until then, I have the honor of reading this letter to you, Frank.”
