Manchester United swoop at Atalanta to sign Ederson for £35m, with Ederson set to head to Manchester for a medical later this month
Ederson is due to head to England later this month to complete a £35m move to Manchester United. United have agreed a summer signing bonus for the Brazil international with Atalanta.
Ederson, 26, has agreed a £75,000-a-week deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2030. The midfielder is currently on summer break following the end of the Serie A season. However, he is expected to arrive in Manchester in the coming weeks to finalize his move before joining up with the United squad in time for pre-season training.
United travel to Scandinavia for a series of friendlies and manager Michael Carrick wants Ederson to be an integral part of those games.
Coach Carrick agreed to sign Ederson due to the player’s versatility and work-rate. And the fact that Ederson was not included in the Brazil World Cup squad allowed United to go ahead with the deal.
Manager Carrick is keen to strengthen his midfield following Casemiro’s departure. Manuel Ugarte is also likely to fall out of favor and leave United, provided someone accepts his £25m offer.
United have given up on signing Elliott Anderson, who is expected to join neighboring Manchester City. However, players such as Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleva, Matheus Fernandes and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Choameny and Federico Valverde could still be targets.
Choameni has downplayed the recent row with Valverde, insisting he is still committed to the Spanish giants.
However, United remain in limbo for the time being as Jose Mourinho, who has returned to manage Real, has yet to decide which players he wants to deal with at the Bernabéu.
