Harry Maguire is reportedly set to appear on The Rest is Football podcast during the World Cup after being left out of the England squad. The Manchester United defender was controversially left out of manager Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the United States, but it looks like he will still feature in the competition.

Maguire looked assured of one of the defensive positions after his impressive spell at Old Trafford. However, Tuchel selected Dan Byrne, Jarrell Quansah and Jed Spence instead, while also leaving out Luke Shaw.

The significant snub led to a public exchange between Tuchel and Maguire, with the latter revealing he was stunned by the decision, while the England manager admitted he was surprised by Maguire’s reaction.

Maguire will not play in this tournament, but is expected to play in World Cup-related matches in the United States.

The 33-year-old is expected to be one of a number of guests appearing on The Rest is Football, according to The Athletic. Earlier this year it was announced that Goal Hunger, the company behind the weekly football podcast, had signed a £14m deal with Netflix to broadcast daily editions of the show.

Lineker will be accompanied by regular co-host Alan Shearer for a total of 40 episodes, set in a studio overlooking New York’s Times Square.

Regular third presenter Micah Richards will appear in person on certain episodes, but primarily from the BBC’s virtual studios in Salford. The World Cup begins in about a week, with co-hosts Mexico and South Africa playing against each other.

England’s final warm-up game before the start of the tournament will be played 24 hours before the Three Lions take on Costa Rica in Orlando. While most players’ attention is on the World Cup, United are set to seal Ederson’s first summer deal, joining from Atalanta in a £38.8m deal.

With the 26-year-old left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad and with just 12 months remaining on his contract, the Italian side were also willing to sell him, and negotiations were concluded quickly.

Following Casemiro’s departure, Michael Carrick’s side are expected to make further midfield reinforcements, with the likes of Elliott Anderson, Matheus Fernandes, Adam Wharton and Aurélien Choameni among others being considered.

United are also looking to strengthen their left-back position, with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall emerging as a key target. Arsenal’s promising player Miles Lewis-Skelly and West Ham United’s El Hadji Malik Diouf have also been named.

Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte are all set to leave the club permanently, and with Jadon Sancho’s contract expiring, sanctioning his departure remains a key target.
