Ibrahima Konate’s five-year spell at Liverpool will end this summer after the club were unable to agree new terms with the France international centre-back.
Liverpool have announced that Ibrahima Konate will leave the club when his contract expires. Mr Konate had been in talks to extend his stay on Merseyside, but after negotiations broke down he will leave.
In a statement, the club said: “Konate departs with a deep sense of gratitude for his contribution. Everyone at the club wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
He joined from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £36m and made 183 appearances in all competitions, winning the Premier League title as well as the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups.
The 27-year-old’s contract expires on June 30th and he will leave Liverpool as a free agent. He will leave the club this summer, along with fellow Liverpool stalwarts Mo Salah and Andy Robertson.

Konate wrote his own statement on Instagram, saying: “Dear Liverpool, five years ago I arrived as a young player with big dreams. Today I leave with memories that will last a lifetime.
“It is an honor to represent this club. We have shared great moments together… the highs and the lows, the trophies, the challenges, the friendships that will last a lifetime and the heartbreaking moments that will stay in our hearts forever, but nothing is worse than losing my brother Diogo.
“Losing my father this year was one of the most difficult times in my life, but no matter how difficult it was, my commitment to this club never changed. During the most difficult times, I gave everything I had for this badge.” Thank you to my team-mates, coaches, staff and everyone who supported me behind the scenes for helping me grow every day.
“And to all the supporters… thank you for the love, energy and incredible support. Anfield is a really special place and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted.” I am so disappointed that I didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to you all for the last game. At that moment, I had no idea that it would be the last time I would wear this shirt in front of everyone. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. I love you all and I will take Liverpool with me wherever I go. This is not an easy farewell, but it’s time for a new challenge, a new chapter. See you soon, Inshallah.”
Like many Liverpool players, Konate endured a difficult 2025/26 season. The Reds lost 19 games in all competitions and could only finish fifth in the Premier League the year after lifting the trophy.
His performances in central defense were often criticized and Liverpool spent £60m to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in January, with the young defender due to join this summer. The club also signed Giovanni Leoni last summer, but the Italian missed most of the season with a serious knee injury.
