On Saturday night, Arsenal lost the Champions League final and were immediately subjected to brutal trolling from rival players, fans and clubs.
After Tottenham’s arch-rivals Arsenal lost the Champions League final on penalties, Richarlison wasted no time rubbing salt in Arsenal’s wounds on social media.
The Gunners faced Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on Saturday night in search of their first ever European Championship. However, despite taking the lead in the sixth minute with Kai Havertz’s goal, the game remained heartbreaking in Hungary as Arsenal failed to score from 12 yards with Eberechi Eze and Gabriel failing to score from 12 yards.
As Arsenal were forced to endure a narrow loss, people including Richarlison immediately began trolling them on social media.
The Brazilian shared a child’s laugh on his Instagram account minutes after the shootout ended, much to the delight of Spurs fans who follow him.
He wasn’t the only player to kick Arsenal when they were behind, with Jed Spence also mocking the Gunners’ social media posts during the North London derby.
The video, captioned “Lockup”, showed Spence losing the ball under pressure from Cristian Mosquera and Bukayo Saka. the Spurs wing-back tweeted with an emoji of an unlocked padlock.
Erling Haaland was one of the players to post on social media immediately after the match, and Chelsea also took advantage of the opportunity to be proactive, promoting a tour to their home base at Stamford Bridge.
In a social media post for ‘X’, the Blues shared a large image of the Champions League trophy, referencing their previous two victories in the competition, alongside two star players representing the victories, and wrote: “Visit the home of the trophy in London. Book your Stamford Bridge stadium tour now.”
Crystal Palace, who just won the Europa Conference League earlier this week, also joined in by sharing an image of their celebrations in Leipzig with the caption: “European Champions”.
PSG midfielder Joao Neves also criticized Arsenal’s tactics, saying Arsenal deserved the win because they were “the only team I wanted to play for”.
“The emotions are there. It’s the second time we’re European champions. What makes me happy is not the victory itself, but the fact that I was able to play with these teammates, this staff and this management team. Coming here was the best decision I ever made. I love everything here. We deserved it today, because PSG were the only team that wanted to play,” he said.
