Newcastle United and England icon Kevin Keegan was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, making a rare public appearance at the age of 75.
Kevin Keegan jokingly said he was “still alive” during his first public appearance since being diagnosed with cancer. Earlier this year, his former club Newcastle United released a statement confirming the news.
Just a few months later, a false rumor was circulating on social media that he had only a short time to live. The malicious rumor included a fabricated quote attributed to the former Magpies manager who said: “I hope to spend my final days in peace with my loved ones.”
Thankfully, Keegan, 75, remains in good spirits, as evidenced by a social media video filmed to promote his upcoming Tyne Theater appearance. Tonight, he will reflect on his career and life in conversation with Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves.

Former Manchester City manager Keegan appeared alongside Graves in the promotional clip, looking sharp and healthy in a light gray suit and navy blue shirt. When Graves asked how he was doing, he even gave a cheeky nod to Hoax and said, “I’m still alive, thank you.”
He added: “I’m obviously really looking forward to going to Newcastle. As you know, it’s not my second home, it’s my first home. I’m always happy when I go there.”
The sight of Liverpool icon Keegan healthy and full of energy will warm the hearts of football supporters of all clubs. His event was announced five weeks ago, and Graves shared a video revealing all the details.
He said: “The King returned to Newcastle in May after just five weeks at the Tyne Theater. Kev is going through a really tough time. He is very unwell, but the great news is that he has responded well to treatment and is feeling much better.”
“He’s not out of the woods yet, but he feels strong enough to go out and meet people, meet fans, tell his story and relive great memories, and he’s having a lot of fun doing it.
“It’s an honor to be the host and I can’t wait to welcome him and hear all the Geordies cheering when he arrives.”
When the fake Facebook post started circulating, Graves was the first to set the record straight, writing, “I can confirm that this statement is fake and untrue. Kevin’s treatment is ongoing and he is responding well!”
“We would like to remind everyone that his family has requested privacy at this time. Kevin has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of well wishes and kindness from his fans around the world.”
