Raheem Sterling has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after allegedly crashing his Lamborghini on the highway. The former Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea winger was reportedly stopped by police on the M3 in Hampshire on Thursday morning. According to The Sun, Sterling, who currently plays for Feyenoord, has been released on bail pending further investigation.
Stirling is reportedly suspected of operating a vehicle while unwell from drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. Class C drugs include tranquilizers such as Valium, as well as steroids, laughing gas, and GHB. Express Sport has contacted Hampshire Police for comment.
In a statement to The Sun newspaper, the force said: “Just before 9am on Thursday, we received reports of a Lamborghini colliding with a barrier on the M3 southbound near the Minley Interchange. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.”
“The driver, a 31-year-old man from Berkshire, was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while disqualified by drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. He has been released on bail while our investigations continue.”
Sterling, 31, began his football career at Queens Park Rangers and joined Liverpool’s academy at the age of 15. He broke into the first team, becoming a fan favorite at Anfield and was scouted by Manchester City in 2015.
He enjoyed trophy-laden days at the Etihad Stadium, winning multiple titles during his seven-year spell at the club.
The forward joined Chelsea on a seven-year deal in 2022 but failed to make any impact at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling was loaned to Arsenal until the 2024-25 season, but the Gunners had no interest in signing him permanently and was sent back to west London.
He was effectively banished at the beginning of last season and his contract was terminated by mutual consent in January. He joined Feyenoord on a free transfer and made eight appearances for the Dutch club in the second half of the season.
Sterling was previously a regular in the England squad, winning 82 caps since making his debut in 2012. He shined at Euro 2020 as the Three Lions reached the final, losing to Italy on penalties, but he has not played in an international match since 2022.
