Manchester United have quietly confirmed their first transfer of the summer window in a deal worth around £31 million. Michael Carrick will be hoping for a productive summer as he prepares for his first full season in charge of the Red Devils. He led United into the top five of the Premier League on an interim basis, and after some good results, he was handed the permanent manager’s job.

However, this will not be United’s first signing of the summer, as Rasmus Hojlund has already left the club and joined Napoli on a permanent basis.

The forward struggled to impose himself during his time in England and was loaned out to the Italian giants at the start of last season.

The contract included a clause that would see him remain at Napoli full-time if they qualified for the Champions League.

The clause was triggered when they finished second in Serie A and qualified for Europe’s top table for the 2026-27 season.

The move was quietly confirmed Thursday night when United Airlines announced its third-quarter results. It was announced that they had received £31.36 million in proceeds from the sale of a player believed to be Hoylund.

This comes weeks after the Dane wrote an emotional message to Red Devils supporters on social media, reflecting on his departure and his time at Old Trafford.

“I have qualified for the Champions League with Napoli, which means that the contract means I am officially a Napoli player and I am saying goodbye to Manchester United,” the player said.

“It’s a strange feeling, because this past year I already feel like a Napoli player. I’m very grateful to the fans for supporting me, making me feel at home and giving me confidence again.”

“It’s with some emotion that I say goodbye to Manchester United. My childhood dream came true by wearing the red jersey and playing at Old Trafford.

“Today’s goal represents a new start full of confidence to give everything I have for Napoli and I would like to thank all the fans, players and staff at Manchester United for making my childhood dream come true.”
