Arne Slott’s position at Liverpool looks increasingly precarious amid the latest reports surrounding the Dutchman’s future at Anfield. The Reds head coach oversaw a disastrous defense of the Premier League title as the club finished fifth with 60 points, 24 points fewer than the previous season.
Slott has been under relentless scrutiny during the campaign, but reports have emerged suggesting club owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) remain steadfast in their faith in Slott. The 47-year-old has already turned his attention to summer plans, highlighting the need for a new winger following Mohamed Salah’s departure.
But that has done little to quell growing speculation over potential activity in Liverpool’s managerial market, while key Reds figures are reportedly considering a move away from Merseyside.
Express Sport investigates the latest developments emerging from Anfield…
Reds “start to move” with slot blow
Slott has just one year left on his contract with Liverpool, but Di Marzio says he may not be able to see through to the end of his contract following reports that the Reds are making inquiries about Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.
The former league champions are thought to be considering alternatives to their manager, with interest reportedly growing in the Spaniard, in what is expected to be an attractive summer at Anfield.
The 43-year-old is reportedly being approached by AC Milan as a potential successor to manager Max Allegri, with Sky Sports Italia reporting that he is also attracting interest from Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen and Crystal Palace.
Any discussion surrounding Iraola will be more focused on the future rather than an immediate appointment, but the Reds risk losing their manager if they choose to give Slott more time to turn things around at Anfield.
Club leaders hold talks over transfer
According to Di Marzio, Reds sporting director Richard Hughes flew to Monte Carlo on Tuesday to discuss a possible move with Inter Milan’s Piero Audiglio.
The Italian giants were reportedly interested in the 25-year-old during the January transfer window until Slott prevented the Liverpool-born midfielder from leaving.
Jones has one year left on his contract and is said to be prioritizing a move to Inter Milan.
