Elliott Anderson is expected to leave Nottingham Forest this summer, with both Manchester clubs in the race to sign him, with his value said to be in excess of £100m.

Nottingham Forest’s rising star Elliot Anderson is leaning towards a move to Manchester City rather than rivals Manchester United. Anderson, 23, is valued at an eye-watering £120m heading into the summer transfer window.

The England international cataloged every display of action in midfield to keep Forest safe in the Premier League. With the domestic season over and the World Cup just around the corner, competition to sign Anderson is intensifying.

BBC Sport report that City are the frontrunners and that Anderson’s current preference is to move to the Etihad. This is despite City currently not having a manager in place, although former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is in talks to replace Josep Guardiola.

It is notable that there is still a big hurdle to overcome as City have not yet agreed a contract with Forest. United, however, remain adamant that they will not be drawn into a bidding war.

Anderson moved from his boyhood club Newcastle for £35m in 2024 and enjoyed two impressive seasons at Forest. Playing a starring role at the World Cup will only enhance his status and potentially raise his price tag if his future is not decided by then.

Anderson and Forest team-mate Morgan Gibbs-White have been linked with possible departures, with manager Vitor Pereira saying on Sunday that the pair deserved to be on the “top of the world” but is keen to keep them at the City Ground. “I think if you want to compete for different goals, you need to keep your best players,” Pereira explained.

“Otherwise, if you change it every season, it’s hard to be consistent and it’s hard to build something stronger. Of course we can’t control the market, but I think we’re in agreement. What I think and what the club thinks is to keep most of them and try to control the market.”

Michael Carrick specifically praised the midfielder before Anderson provided two impressive assists in United’s 2-2 defeat away to Forest at Old Trafford earlier this month. “Oh, he did a good job,” Carrick praised. “I think he’s an important part of their team.

“I think he offers a lot and they have a really talented squad and a dangerous squad. So they’ve had a good season to get to the (European League) semi-finals and just fell short. But yeah, obviously you can see he’s an important part of the team.”
