Defender Joe Gomez has one year left on his contract with Liverpool and could be linked with a move to another Premier League club this summer.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has been ’emerged as a target’ for Premier League rivals Aston Villa to leave Anfield. The centre-back has one year left on his contract at Anfield and leaving seems the most likely route for the defender.

And if Gomez decides to leave Merseyside, there will be no shortage of fans. Aston Villa are reportedly interested in him as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Champions League campaign.

According to the Mail Online, the Midlands side have yet to make a formal approach, but Villa bosses are big fans of his versatility and would be tempted to pounce if the price was right.

It is also reported that Besiktas and AC Milan are interested, but a move could be difficult as Milan continue to revamp their backroom team. Gomez, 29, joined Liverpool from Charlton Athletic in 2015 and has made 274 appearances for the club but is yet to score.

As he said earlier this season, he had doubts about his future with the club. He said: “I don’t think we know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if that’s an honest answer. I only have one year left on my contract, so I don’t know.”

“Whatever happens, I’m very grateful to have had this time at this club. I’ll always be grateful to have spent 11 years in a place like this. All I can do is be grateful. We’ll see.”

If he leaves, Gomez would become the latest long-term player to choose to leave this summer. Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson left at the end of their respective contracts and played their final games for the club against Brentford at the weekend.

Salah has yet to reveal where he will play next, but it looks like Robertson will remain in the Premier League. The Scottish defender is reportedly on the verge of a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Robertson agreed a contract with the north London side some time ago, but waited until they had confirmed their place in the top flight. Liverpool manager Arne Slott has already hinted that more key players could join the club this summer.

The Reds are already linked with a move for RB Leipzig winger Yann Diomande, but he could face stiff competition from French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
