Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is inching closer to his next destination after reportedly reaching a verbal agreement with Tottenham. The Scotland captain will remain in the Premier League after Spurs expressed an interest in his signature after an approach in January failed.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists Juventus’ last attempt to hijack the deal failed and that the full-back has complied with the “agreement” made when he moved to north London in January. The former Dundee United and Hull left-back saw his chances at Anfield diminish during Arne Slott’s tumultuous campaign and was replaced by summer recruit Milos Kerkes, a decade Robertson’s junior.
Robertson bid a heartfelt farewell to the Anfield fans during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford and received a guard of honor in his final appearance for the Reds.
But he won’t have to wait long to return to L4 after Roberto De Zerbi’s side secured their place in the top flight with a 2-0 win over Everton on the final day of the season.
The Liverpool legend appears to have dropped a major hint about his next chapter in his farewell message to supporters after leaving the club. The Scotland captain told fans on social media: “This is not goodbye, we will meet again.”
“I’ve spent the past week telling the people in the building, the players and staff how much they mean to me. Now it’s my turn to tell the most important people at the club how much they mean to me.”
“That’s you guys. The love and support you’ve shown me since day one has been unimaginable. Your support has always given me that extra motivation to be the best version of myself.”
“We’ve had so many special nights and special days together and I’ll be forever grateful for that – home games, away games, trips to Wembley or parades. You always show up in the numbers and I never took it for granted.”
“You are the heartbeat of the club and the best fans in the world. Thank you for the reception yesterday, it will stay with me for the rest of my life.
“You guys are family. This is not goodbye, let’s meet again. YNWA, Robo.”
And Robertson is set to play at least twice for Liverpool next season and is expected to meet the club soon to mark a quick reunion with the team he will leave this summer.
The 32-year-old’s journey with Liverpool will end at the end of the season when his contract expires. He won two Premier League titles, two Carabao Cups and silver medals in the Champions League, Super Cup, FA Cup and Club World Cup, mostly during a dominant period under Jurgen Klopp.
