Roy Keane continues to engage with Bruno Fernandes on social media after accusing the Manchester United star of lying when he criticized him.
Roy Keane appears to have further criticized Bruno Fernandes after he posted on his Instagram story: “Too much attention makes a donkey think he’s a lion.”
This comes after Fernandes responded to the Irishman during a verbal war. The Manchester United playmaker made history on the final day of the Premier League with his 21st assist of the season.
This puts him apart from Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry, who each scored 20 goals. Fernandes equalized for United in their 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last week, but Keane took aim at his apparent obsession with assist records, claiming it had become a “circus act”.
Keane referred to comments made by Fernandes that suggested he cared more about assist records than match results, but the Portugal international hit back.
Mr. Fernandes insisted he welcomed criticism, but said in the CEO’s diary: “What I don’t like is when people lie about things. What you said about Roy Keane[in this]is basically a lie because he can’t say he saw the other interviews or the one thing I didn’t say is fortunately on record.”

“I accept his criticism and I accept that he may like or dislike me as a player, like me or dislike me as a person. But what I don’t like is when he puts words out of my mouth that he didn’t say. That’s the only thing I don’t like.”
Keane seemed fired up when he called out Fernandes on the overlap, saying: “Is it possible that a footballer’s mindset goes into a game worrying about personal records? He’s not going to win trophies and neither is the team’s mindset.”
Keene’s social media post Monday night appeared to be the latest response to the ongoing saga. Fernandes has only won twice in his six years in Manchester, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
Fernandes has won the Football Writers’ Association’s Men’s Player of the Year award and the Premier League’s Player of the Season award this term and is looking to clear the air with Keane.
Fernandes said he contacted former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and asked for the Irishman’s phone number. “Honestly, I also asked for Ole’s phone number to send the message that I don’t care about the criticism.[But]I don’t like it when people lie about what they say, because… this is a little bit beyond what I think is acceptable.”
