Arsenal are enjoying their first Premier League title since 2004, but Mikel Arteta has made bold promises for his players and his passionate fan base
Late into the night in a fancy Mayfair restaurant, surrounded by ostentatiously priced food and drink, Mikel Arteta promised Arsenal fans: “We’re going to be champions of Europe.”
The Gunners may have won the Premier League title, but their campaign is far from over. There’s one game left in the season, and it just so happens to be the biggest matchup in club history.
On Saturday, the north Londoners head to Budapest to take on reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. While Arteta and his players enjoy the moment of joy, they also have their eyes set on further celebrations in the capital.

Attendees at Bacchanalia, a trendy Mediterranean restaurant in central London, filmed a video of Arteta delivering his latest impassioned speech with a microphone in hand. He shouted, “On Saturday we will be European champions!”
His bold declaration may have served as a reminder to excited stars that another huge piece of silverware was up for grabs. It would have been something to simmer on while the players ate a delicious meal and enjoyed the fancy drinks on display.
Most of the drinks on offer are thought to cost customers at least £100, with some wines costing as much as £56,000. However, it is unclear whether Arteta and his players indulged in the expensive drinks.
If they win against PSG on Saturday, it would be no surprise to see Arteta and his players return to Mayfair for another lavish celebration. Declan Rice, who was seen rapping and dancing at a party, has already made it clear that Arsenal are fully focused on facing Luis Enrique.
“I think that’s already the message from the manager,” the England international said after the celebrations when asked about this weekend’s big fixture.
“We just have to enjoy today, but tomorrow we will give our all to PSG. We have a big chance. We want it, you know, we want the double and we want to push for it.”
Captain Martin Odegaard, who lifted the trophy at Selhurst Park after the Gunners won 2-1 away at Crystal Palace, added: “There was a great celebration on Tuesday. The atmosphere was unreal and everyone is so happy. But we have a big final in less than a week so the party will wait until then.”
“Tomorrow is off and then we have Tuesday training, so we’re going to take it easy tonight. We’ve got to enjoy it and make sure we’re ready and go for it, and hopefully we can do that.”
