Liverpool are ready to target a new winger following Mohamed Salah’s departure, with RB Leipzig’s Yann Diomande also on the shortlist.
Liverpool are eyeing several players to fill Mohamed Salah’s void, with RB Leipzig’s Yann Diomande high on their wishlist.
The winger continues to impress in Germany and attracts a lot of attention, with the Reds seeing him as an ideal replacement on the right-wing. Salah leaves the club as the third greatest goalscorer in the club’s history, and although he was underwhelming last year, he will continue to be a huge presence in need of a replacement.
Diomande is only 19 but has already won nine caps for Ivory Coast, was involved in 23 goals last season and has a release clause of around £86 million.
Leipzig’s model is to develop young players and sign them before making a big profit, and they have had several previous deals with Liverpool. Naby Keita and Dominik Szoboszlai are among the names who will move between the two teams.
Diomande has scored 13 goals this year and is also on the radar of Liverpool, with the Telegraph reporting that they believe the Reds could reduce his hefty price tag by signing the player to a cash deal.

Diomande is the top target, but the Merseysiders are keeping an eye on potential replacements as well. Anthony Gordon’s future at Newcastle remains uncertain with suggestions that one of their top players may need to be sold. He was linked with Liverpool a few years ago and has been a fan since he was a boy.
Another player who has attracted their attention is PSG’s Bradley Barcola, who helped the French side knock Liverpool out of the Champions League in successive seasons. He had been heavily mooted as a possible move, but the club opted not to make him a substitute 12 months ago to avoid closing off Rio Ngmoja’s path to the first team.
Arne Slott admits wingers are a big part of the club’s DNA, and in addition to losing Salah, he also sold Luis Diaz 12 months ago. “One of the reasons everyone is talking about wingers is Mo leaving. It makes perfect sense to think about (signing) at least one of them. I think last season will give us the answer. How important were the wingers last season to our success?” he said of his reinforcement plans.
“They were essential to winning the league last season because they were scoring goals and providing goals. There is more focus on wingers in general in football. One of the reasons we were so difficult to play against was because we had threats on the right and left.”
