Michael Carrick’s Manchester United coaching staff has been permanently confirmed, with Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, Travis Binion and Craig Mawson all signing new contracts.
Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, Travis Binion and Craig Mawson from Michael Carrick’s backroom team have all penned new deals that will keep them in their respective positions at Manchester United permanently.
Carrick has been supported by Holland (assistant manager), Woodgate (first team coach), Evans (first team coach), Binion (first team coach) and Mawson (goalkeeper coach) since taking over as interim manager.
When Carrick won the Premier League Manager of the Month award in January, he joined his players in paying tribute to the behind-the-scenes team who have helped United continue their impressive run of performances.
The club believes Carrick’s backroom staff have a great combination of skill sets and personalities, and those who witnessed their coaching at Carrington noticed a strong dynamic between them, the Manchester Evening News reported.

Holland is understood to have played a key role as Mr Carrick’s assistant. The pair are regularly seen talking on the touchline during matches, with Carrick recently describing his number two as a “very smart guy”.
Holland was Gareth Southgate’s assistant manager throughout his time as England manager, leading the Three Lions to third place at the 2018 World Cup and back-to-back runners-up finishes at the European Championships. Before joining the England squad, Holland spent several years at Chelsea, assisting the likes of Jose Mourinho, Rafael Benitez, Roberto Di Matteo and Antonio Conte.
Holland and Woodgate have been active participants alongside Carrick throughout training sessions. Woodgate’s fluency in Spanish has allowed him to build trusting relationships with the Spanish-speaking players on the team.
Woodgate, Evans and Binion all provide individual coaching to United players. Woodgate and Evans focused on the defensive unit, while Binion progressed with the offensive players.
Binion previously held the role of under-21 manager, but was promoted to assist the first team when Darren Fletcher took over as interim manager. Binion’s official title at the academy was “Head of Player Development and Coaching” before his promotion.
The 39-year-old has long acted as a liaison between the first team and the academy, recommending which players are ready to take part in senior training sessions, but his responsibilities have expanded in recent months.
Mawson remained as goalkeeping coach following the departure of Ruben Amorim. The 47-year-old joined United from Burnley in 2019 and has worked with the likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag.
