Sky Sports has issued an apology following Lewie Coyle’s emotional interview after Hull City clinched the Premier League title with a dramatic play-off final win against Middlesbrough at Wembley.

Sky Sports has been forced to apologize following Lewie Coyle’s x-rated comments in an emotional interview following Hull’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in the play-off final. The Tigers captain could not hide his emotions as he spoke about the moment his father passed away after captaining him as a boy and leading them to the Premier League.
Just as it looked like the play-off final would go into extra time, Oli McBurnie scored the winning goal in the 96th minute, returning Hull to the Premier League for the first time since 2017. Solomon Bryn was unable to keep out a cross from the left and Scotland fired home from close range.
Coyle lost his father Chris, but he was always at the forefront of his mind throughout the high-profile match at Wembley. By securing the final place in next season’s Premier League, he paid tribute to his late father, delivering a eulogy in the post-match interview and taking aim at those who doubted him throughout his career.

“It’s tough. There’s only one guy (my dad) celebrating with me. He’s not with us, but he’s looking up at the sky every game. I look up at the sky again today and he’s with us. I know he’s with us. The next best thing is having family here that’s been here since day one.”
“I don’t think many people would have thought that I would captain a Premier League team. It seems a bit rude to say it out loud, but I’m just an honest kid. There’s one guy who definitely would have believed in me, and that’s my old man.”
“That’s all I said to myself throughout the game. He would have said, ‘You can do it, son of a bitch,’ and I shouldn’t have sworn, I’m sorry, but it was the way he said it, so I had to say it. He put us over the line today, and I know for a fact that he did.”

Pitchside reporter Jonathan Oakes allowed the Hull captain to finish before apologizing, saying: “Well said, Rewi, we apologize for the words as we know they are too many.”
Meanwhile, after the interview, lead presenter David Plutton added: “Again, emotions are running very high. We apologize for any harsh words you may have heard.”
The Spygate controversy that rocked English football after Southampton were found guilty of spying on Boro ahead of their semi-final first leg threatened to overshadow Saturday’s final.
Saints were expelled from the competition for breaching English Football League (EFL) regulations, and a subsequent appeal was unsuccessful.
This means Middlesbrough are back in the play-offs, despite losing in extra time to St Mary’s but not being able to beat the Tigers.
Ahead of the exhibition, Hull owner Akun Ylikal revealed that legal advice had found that he should have been automatically promoted following Southampton’s ouster. Hours before the play-off final, Illikari threatened legal action if he missed out on promotion to Kim Helberg’s team.

He told BBC Humberside: “Our legal team says we have to take action, that’s for sure. So we have no doubts about that. All we want here is justice. If justice is broken then no one will be able to enjoy football.”
“If this behavior was so large that it took the team out of the play-offs, why didn’t they just not play the semi-final, investigate and remove Southampton and bring in Wrexham?”
“Why are Wrexham out now? Please let Wrexham in and keep the competition going. For me, bringing the eliminated team back, as my lawyers have said, and it’s their opinion, is an incredibly wrong decision.”
“Now I can talk a little bit more because now the players are in the stadium and they can’t hear me. I didn’t want to disrupt their concentration.”
“From what I’ve heard from our lawyers, the decision is debatable and highly debatable. But of course we have to focus on the game and the players are tough enough to overcome these difficulties.”
