The final day of the Premier League season could be pivotal in Liverpool’s bid to qualify for the Champions League, but it also promises to be a deeply emotional afternoon at Anfield. Several players, including one who won two league titles with the club, are set to bid a final farewell to the Anfield faithful. Defeat at Aston Villa means Arn Slott’s side need a draw with Brentford to seal a top-five finish without having to rely on other teams’ advantage.
Liverpool have already announced that Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson will be leaving the club after nine years on Merseyside. The pair helped the Reds win the Premier League in 2020 and 2025 and won numerous accolades, but they will be very difficult to replace. But they may not be the only ones saying goodbye, with more teams likely to leave this summer. Express Sport looks at who could line up for his final appearance for the club on Sunday…
Back in December, it looked like Salah might be leaving the club. His falling out with Arne Slott was widely reported, leading to speculation that he could leave during the winter transfer window. Despite staying out of the limelight for a while during the African Cup of Nations, the Egyptian star ultimately stayed. But that didn’t last long, as he announced in March that he intended to step down in the summer.
The injury sustained in the recent win against Crystal Palace has fueled fears that Salah will be denied the farewell he deserves. Despite this, he made his comeback at Villa Park and is available for selection this weekend, although recent criticism of the club has led to suggestions that he should be left out.
Robertson, like Salah, joined Liverpool in the summer of 2017. He was also linked with a possible departure before the end of the season, but Tottenham showed interest in January, but he stayed.
The Scotland international was an unused substitute on Friday, with Milos Kerkes given priority. He has played less this term, but could still feature against Brentford.
Since joining from Hull City, Robertson has made over 350 appearances for Liverpool and has won numerous accolades. Even if he remains in the Premier League, Spurs are the frontrunners for him.
Konate’s contract status has been a recurring topic in this campaign. The France international looked on the verge of signing a new contract in April, but speculation has since died down.
There is a possibility that both players and clubs will go into Sunday’s game without a clear understanding of what will happen next. The 26-year-old has battled fitness issues throughout his time at Liverpool but has featured in 35 league games this season. Konate and Robertson are two of four Liverpool players whose contracts expire on June 30th. However, back-up duo Freddie Woodman and Rhys Williams are not expected to feature in Sunday’s game.

Alisson has been sidelined with injury since March and has missed Liverpool’s last seven league games. This is the Brazilian’s second long absence from the campaign, but he is now back in training and could take part on Sunday.
The 33-year-old has been at Anfield since joining in 2018 after helping Roma reach the Champions League semi-finals. A return to Italy has been linked with him, with Juventus said to be interested.
Giorgi Mamadashvili put in some impressive performances after initially being brought in as Alisson’s long-term replacement. Nevertheless, saying goodbye to the cornerstones of two title-winning teams is going to be emotional every time it happens.
Jones is also a player who could potentially move to Serie A. The academy graduate has attracted interest from Inter Milan, with reports suggesting Denzel Dumfries could go the other way.
The England international’s comments after Friday’s defeat sparked speculation about his future. “Thank you for your continued support during a disappointing season, which has fallen far short of the standards expected of this football club,” he wrote on social media. Since making his Premier League debut in 2019, Jones has made more than 150 appearances for his boyhood club. He has started the last seven league games and is expected to play a role against Brentford.
Chiesa has been repeatedly linked with a return to Italy since joining from Juventus during Arne Slott’s first transfer window. The 28-year-old has struggled to earn a regular starting spot, but to his credit he has shown little sign of dissatisfaction at Anfield.
The Italian got the season off to a good start, scoring a decisive goal off the bench as Liverpool beat Bournemouth, and there was considerable optimism about what’s to come. He only scored one more goal in the league, but came on as a substitute in each of the last three games.
Several Serie A clubs, including former team Juve, have been touted as potential summer transfer candidates. Despite his difficulties, the Reds were able to make a profit on the £12.7m they initially paid.

Gomez is Liverpool’s longest-serving player and one of the longest-serving players in the entire Premier League. The defender joined from Charlton Athletic in 2015, but this weekend’s match could be his last appearance for the club.
The England international still has one year left on his contract. Despite this, there have been reports suggesting he could leave before then, with AC Milan also thought to be among those hoping to secure his continued role. Gomez, who can play at either right-back or centre-back, would be a big loss if he were to leave. The 28-year-old has made 32 appearances in all competitions this season, taking his total to more than 250 appearances for Liverpool despite suffering a serious injury midway through.
Japanese midfielder Endo joined ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s final season but has struggled for game time under Slott. A return to the Bundesliga is being discussed, with reports suggesting he could leave in the summer rather than completing the final year of his contract.
There were fears the 33-year-old had already made his final appearance for Liverpool after suffering ruptured ankle ligaments in February. However, the former Stuttgart player has focused on his rehabilitation and is expected to feature against Brentford after earning a place in the World Cup squad.
“It wasn’t easy to recover from the injury, but I believed in myself that I could achieve this. I will continue to work hard to get in shape for the match,” he said. “To my team-mates, staff and fans, thank you for always being with me and supporting me. I hope to see all the LFC fans on the pitch at Anfield next week before we go to the World Cup. YNWA.”
