After the drama of the Spygate saga, the Sky Bet Championship play-off final will finally take place this afternoon, with Hull City taking on Middlesbrough at Wembley.

Southampton defeated Boro in the semi-final but were expelled from the competition as a result of the Spygate hearings.

Following an EFL investigation, Saints were found guilty of “deplorable” conduct in pressuring young staff to spy on Middlesbrough ahead of the semi-final.

Middlesbrough reported to the EFL that Southampton staff had spied on them during training on May 7, in breach of league regulations, and the EFL laid charges the next day.

The focus now shifts to today’s match, with the winner at Wembley guaranteed Premier League status and at least £200m in prize money.

The Tigers head into this afternoon’s game on a three-game unbeaten streak, including two wins, while the Teessiders are winless in three games after ending the regular season with a seven-point lead.
