Andy Robertson is set to leave Liverpool this season after a glittering career at Anfield, but his final season at the club was a disappointment for everyone at the club.
Andy Robertson believes Liverpool’s disappointing season is down to new players struggling to adapt to life at Anfield, but he fully expects them all to find success over time.
The Reds have endured a difficult season after winning the Premier League last season under Arne Slott. Ahead of the final game of the season against Brentford, Liverpool sit fifth and need at least one point to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
This campaign also sees Robertson end his brilliant career at the club on a slightly bitter note. But the Scottish defender clearly understands why things haven’t gone as expected this season.
“In terms of the club I’m leaving behind, I think we’re still in a transition phase, not in 2017,” Robertson said.
“We won the league last year (and) the environment was very similar. We had to give 100 per cent in every game, but the message from the manager, the backroom staff and everyone in the building was very clear. We wanted to achieve something special last year.

“We bought players that we were all excited about[last summer]and they’re all going to have incredible careers at Liverpool. There’s no question about that. But they’re also young. What frustrates me in football is that footballers don’t control their price tag. It’s not us controlling it, the market is controlling it.”
“Whether a team is willing to pay you or they put a price tag on you because they want to sell you, it doesn’t matter to the players, these players will be successful at Liverpool.
“I’ve seen more than enough of their attitude in training and games that they’re going to be successful, but I could see that maybe they need a little more time. And there are some players who have been playing at an incredibly high level, and we just haven’t been able to play to that level.”
“When you put all this together, we’ve had an inconsistent season and that’s been a big frustration for us. This season we’ve been looking for consistency, looking for answers and we haven’t been able to find them.”
“And we were too easy to play against. There’s no getting away from that, but for the future of Liverpool I believe they have more than enough in that dressing room to achieve more goals again. That’s what I want, what the club wants and what everyone wants.”
“I believe they can be successful again and I wish it had been this season and they might have added a trophy or two to an already pretty impressive trophy cabinet then. But it wasn’t meant to be and I think they’ll be right back next season. Now, this year didn’t work out for a variety of reasons.”
