Manchester United will be hoping to cap off a tumultuous campaign with an important away win at Brighton as all eyes are on the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have brought back former captain Michael Carrick, who led them to third place in the Premier League.

The current head coach is expected to take on the role of permanent manager due to his recent outstanding performance. No official announcement has been made yet, but reports suggest that it has been postponed pending confirmation from the coaching team.

Carrick will sign a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a further 12 months. His focus will be squarely on the final game of the campaign against Fabian Hürzeler’s side at the Amex Stadium.

Preparations have already begun to finalize transfer deals this summer, while some current players will also be allowed to leave for new challenges elsewhere. Here, Express Sport rounds up the latest players to emerge from Old Trafford.

Dressing room stance on Rashford transfer

Frenkie de Jong believes Marcus Rashford has “earned the right” to join Barcelona’s squad permanently next season. The United forward has been on loan at the Spanish club this season, helping the club win the La Liga title and win the Supercopa.

Rashford has contributed 28 goals in 48 appearances for the league champions and is keen to continue working under Hansi Flick. There is currently an atmosphere in Barcelona’s dressing room, with vice-captain De Jong fully supporting the move.

“Yes, he has earned the right to stay. In his playing time he has given us a lot: goals, assists, attacking points. He is a fast player and poses a real threat to the opponent’s defense. I would be happy if he stayed with us,” the Dutch midfielder told Spanish media outlet Sport.

“I saw him arrive full of enthusiasm. He was very happy to be here and from the first moment it was clear that he wanted to stay. He tried to adapt as best he could and I’ve seen him do well.”

United have set their sights on Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Serie A star Ederson as their main midfield targets this summer. Sky Sports reports that the club are confident of signing both players, with a combined valuation of £110m.

United are reportedly locked in a bidding war with Atletico Madrid to sign Ederson, but have already reached an agreement with the player himself. He has been offered a wage of £100,000 a week, and the club are set to negotiate a transfer fee with Atalanta, who are currently offering £40m.

Reports this week suggest that Newcastle are likely to sell Tonali, but will not entertain offers of less than £70m. Casemiro has already confirmed he will leave after the Brighton game, with players such as Manuel Ugarte also reportedly considering a move.
