It was Villa’s first major European final since the Prince was born, their first silver medal since the 1996 League Cup, and their first continental trophy since the 1982 European Cup. During the match, the Crown Prince was photographed cheering and celebrating, and taking video with his cell phone camera.
This time, in a new message from X, William shared a video and congratulated his favorite team on the victory.
The Prince wrote: “It was a great night. Thank you to Turkey for hosting a great final. Great atmosphere and great sportsmanship in Freiburg. Enjoy the parade, Birmingham.”
He signed it with his initial “W”.
On Wednesday night, after the match, Kensington Palace released the Prince of Wales’ message to the team.
“My heartiest congratulations to all the players, team, staff and everyone associated with the club! 44 years since we last tasted European silverware!”
Prince added: “I would like to send a special shout out to Boubakar Camara, who is an integral part of our team despite being out injured and who has laid the foundation for this success.”
After lifting the trophy, Villa captain John McGinn said William, who has followed the club since his school days, met the players before kick-off.
He told TNT: “He’s a classy guy. He was in the dressing room before the game. He’s a big Villa fan so he was definitely not going to miss it.”
“He’s a normal guy. It’s great to have his support and I hope it continues. And tonight he’ll have a few drinks with us and maybe by the end of the night we’ll be able to issue him a credit card.”
