Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has made another bombshell before leaving the club. Jamie Carragher has criticized Egyptian Salah, sparking a huge backlash.
Jamie Carragher compared Mohamed Salah’s social media comments to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United rant and labeled the Egyptian player “selfish”.
The Liverpool star came off the bench on Friday night as the Reds lost 4-2 at Aston Villa, with familiar flaws once again exposed. Arne Slott has seen his team, which was champions this time last year, lose 12 times.
They are yet to qualify for the Champions League and their performances leave much to be desired, with Salah taking a shot at the state of the team and its style of play, which many see as a farewell to the 33-year-old, who leaves this summer.
Salah insisted: “It’s very painful for us to collapse with another defeat this season and it’s not what our fans deserved. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that our opponents fear and being the team that wins trophies.”
Carragher is furious, comparing the comments to those of Ronaldo, who was about to force his exit from Old Trafford in 2022, but is not shocked as he has seen them before.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m not surprised. I told everyone: ‘Something will happen before the end of the season. He’ll drop another bomb, like Ronaldo did when he left Manchester United.’ I thought it might come after the season when he moved, but it didn’t.”
“Less than two years ago, I called him selfish for giving an interview and I think that’s also true. Liverpool have a really important week. It should be about Liverpool FC and not Salah FC because they haven’t fully qualified for the Champions League yet. It’s essential for Liverpool to qualify for the Champions League, but I’m not surprised and that’s not a good view at all.”
Salah endured Liverpool’s worst season in nearly a decade, scoring just 12 goals. His performance level was so low that Slott opted to leave him out of the starting lineup earlier this season, leading to an unusual mixed zone interview in which the Egyptian said he was “thrown under the bus”.
Slott himself is under pressure to maintain his role in light of Liverpool’s collapse, and Carragher believes Salah is using that to his advantage. “Arne Slott is not in a position to make a big impact at Liverpool at the moment,” he said. “And that’s why Salah made the comment. He doesn’t have the support of the audience right now. That’s why Salah did it.”
