Scotland manager Steve Clarke has announced his 26-man squad for the World Cup, with Celtic and Hearts players reunited after a dramatic final day of the Scottish Premiership. Ross Stewart was a surprise addition to the squad after four years on the international stage, having been recalled after a strong season with Southampton.

Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon, 43, is aiming to become the second-oldest player ever to play in a World Cup. Club captain Lawrence Shankland has joined in to try to put aside the club’s plight after losing the title to Celtic in dramatic fashion, but the controversy continues.

Stewart, 29, has not been with the team since 2022, when he made just two international appearances. However, he played in 33 games in the championship, scoring 11 goals, and was recalled.

Unfortunately, Tommy Conway suffered an injury and the Middlesbrough winger missed the summer competition. Lennon Miller was also absent.

Conway will be replaced by Rangers teenager Findlay Curtis, while Ben Gannon-Doak is named in the squad after recently returning from injury of his own.

Miller was with Udinese in Serie A this season, but missed a friendly in March and was left out of the 26-man squad.

One of Clark’s concerns will be behind the posts, as all three goaltenders have only played in 15 games this season.

Goalkeepers: Craig Gordon (Hearts), Angus Gunn (Nottingham Forest), Liam Kelly (Rangers).

Defenders: Grant Hanley (Hibernian), Jack Hendry (Al Etifaq), Aaron Hickey (Brentford), Dominic Higham (Wrexham), Scott McKenna (Dynamo Zagreb), Nathan Paterson (Everton), Anthony Ralston (Celtic), Andy Robertson (Liverpool), John Souter (Rangers), Kieran Tierney (Celtic).

Midfielders: Ryan Christie (Bournemouth), Findlay Curtis (Rangers), Lewis Ferguson (Bologna), Ben Gannon-Doak (Bournemouth), Billy Gilmour (Napoli), John McGinn (Aston Villa), Kenny McLean (Norwich City), Scott McTominay (Napoli).

Forwards: Che Adams (Turin), Lyndon Dykes (Birmingham City), George Hurst (Ipswich), Lawrence Shankland (Hearts), Ross Stewart (Southampton).
