Marcus Rashford’s future remains up in the air, with Manchester United and Barcelona yet to formally agree a deal for the player ahead of the summer transfer window.

Marcus Rashford is reportedly willing to do whatever it takes to secure a permanent move to Barcelona. The Manchester United forward, who spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Camp Nou, hopes to remain in Catalonia beyond the summer.

Barcelona and United have been in talks for several months, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement, leaving Rashford’s future uncertain. United are sticking to their £26.2m (approximately €30m) valuation for the player, but Barcelona are unwilling to match that amount at this time.

However, Rashford is reportedly willing to take drastic action to make the move happen. According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Rashford has already reached an agreement in principle with Barcelona on a three-year contract that will see him cut his wages by 40% at Old Trafford.

However, with negotiations stalled, he is now willing to abandon that offer and sign a five-year contract instead, believing this may be the “only option” that would make the move financially viable for the club.

Barcelona’s widely reported financial constraints are complicating negotiations, with the club hoping for another loan deal rather than a permanent transfer. The issue centers on how the £26.2m fee will be spread over the length of Rashford’s contract, impacting the club’s accounts and balance sheet.

However, United are reluctant to approve a new loan move, insisting that Rashford must either make a permanent move or leave the club altogether. As a result, Rashford is said to be willing to extend his proposed contract to five years, which would allow Barcelona to spread the transfer fee over a longer period of time and reduce their annual financial burden.

Rashford has scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in 48 appearances for Barcelona and has impressed with his form this season.

With Ruben Amorim no longer in charge after Rashford’s relationship with United soured, a return to Old Trafford has not been completely ruled out, especially with Rashford’s former teammate Michael Carrick expected to take over as permanent manager in the coming days.

However, Rashford’s desire has remained constant throughout the season and he wants to remain at Barcelona. Despite a managerial change at the Red Devils and the possibility of a fresh start, there is little sign that his position on a long-term move to Spain has changed.
