Liverpool lost to Aston Villa on a difficult night for the Reds in the Premier League, with Jamie Carragher slamming Alexis Mac Allister’s antics as “embarrassing”.
Jamie Carragher has slammed Alexis Mac Allister after the Liverpool midfielder was branded “embarrassing” against Aston Villa. The former Reds defender made no bones about his assessment of the Argentine following the incident with Ezri Konsa just before Villa’s third goal.
Mac Allister was left sprawled out on the grass after an off-the-ball collision with an England defender. The 27-year-old appeared to have his hands on the centre-back. Konsa reacted by grabbing him by the shirt and pulling it towards his face, causing the Liverpool man to fall to the ground.
The incident was checked and resolved with the Villa defender avoiding punishment from referee Chris Kavanagh.

Play was stopped while Mac Allister remained on deck, with head coach Arne Slott gesturing towards the area in question, seemingly urging the Liverpool midfielder to stand up.
After reviewing the replay, Carragher said: “Yeah. Honest to God. Honest to God. He plays Mac Allister every game with something wrapped around his ankle, which normally doesn’t happen.
“It’s embarrassing. Stand up. Honestly. It would be embarrassing to get Konsa sent off for something like that. Mac Allister knows we’re all watching the replays. We all know what Konsa did. He knows he can’t get away with it.”

The first shot from the ensuing corner kick was saved by Giorgi Mamadashvili, but Liverpool were closing in on a two-goal lead.
Georgia’s shot-stopper made another save off the rebound, but Watkins was in perfect position to force the ball over the line.
Things got even worse for Liverpool in the closing stages when John McGinn curled a goal into the top corner. While Unai Emery’s side secured their place in the Champions League with victory, the Reds need to beat Brentford on the final day of the season and will hope Bournemouth can’t close the gap in the closing stages.
Virgil van Dijk pulled one back with his second of the night, but it was yet another punishing night for Liverpool’s embattled head coach.
Carragher added: “We have too many weak players, both physically and mentally. He is the player who will be needed to fix Arne Slott. This result does nothing to support supporters’ feelings about his current position.”
