Casemiro made a farewell appearance at Old Trafford ahead of his departure this summer, while Bruno Fernandes equaled the Premier League single-season assist record by scoring Mbeumo’s winning goal against Forest. Carrick addressed supporters after the final whistle and was understood to be close to being appointed as permanent head coach. The interim head coach addressed the fans on the pitch and named two players.
“Thank you, I could hear that (fan chant) all night long and it has to stop. What a way to end the season. I think we played the best we’ve ever played today. It’s unbelievable to be able to see this place like this, it’s a very special place,” he said.
“I have to tell everyone this is a very good group of players. I know we’re here for the football and to perform, but they’re a really good group of people and I think that’s important. Especially at this football club, it’s about sacrificing for each other and looking out for each other. They desperately want to do well, the players.”
“Of course I have to thank the staff, all the backroom staff, the support they have given us all, the staff across the club. The hard work and sacrifice that everyone goes through is what makes this place special.”
“We have players who leave the team at the end of their contracts. Case was great. We have a really good relationship and it’s nice to see the reaction you’ve given him.”
“We also have Tyrell (Marasia) and I spoke to the players before kick-off. He’s been struggling with injuries since he’s been here. Can you please show Tyrell some appreciation?”
“Finally, we really appreciate your support this season. We enjoy the good times and the bad and we support each other. The best thing about this place, as Case said, is the many supporters. When everything is good and great and everyone is involved and everything is great, it’s easy to support and have fun.”
“But the connection I’ve felt since joining this club 20 years ago is when we stick together, even in tough and difficult times. This place is incredible. You only get one shot and that’s what this football club is all about. Thank you.”
“We’ve had some big moments and big goals here over the last few months and hopefully we can do more. Take care and have a great summer.”
In his farewell speech, Casemiro said: “I’m grateful to everyone, the players and the staff, but the best thing about this club is the fans. It’s the fans.”
