Sky is slashing prices by 20% on its entire range of Glass TVs until June 17, including the more budget-friendly Air model, which currently costs from £4.50 per month.
These packages do not include Premier League or EFL matches, but subscribers can include the Sky Sports channel for an extra £20. However, it is not required to watch World Cup broadcasts on BBC and ITV. Buyers of Sky Glass should note that the device is offered on a 48-month loan and also requires a £20 down payment.
Sky’s TV contracts last for 24 months, but the broadcaster says prices are “subject to change” during this period. Sky Glass TVs are perfect for supporting the Three Lions at home for a number of reasons, including the crystal-clear images provided by their 4K HDR quantum dot screens.
It also features a sports viewing mode, which when turned on provides a clearer, cooler look, more vibrant colors and dynamic sound. When it comes to sound quality, each model varies, with the Sky Glass Gen 2 featuring Dolby Atmos sound technology and an integrated soundbar.
The more budget-friendly Sky Glass Air offers a Dolby Audio speaker arrangement for richer sound. Both versions work over WiFi without the need for a dish or Sky box, the units work over WiFi and offer easy plug-and-play installation.
Elsewhere, Virgin Media is offering the complete Sky Sports coverage in its own £54.99 Sports Bundle, which also comes with over 200 channels, free Netflix access and 362Mbps fiber broadband. However, please note that this does not include a TV and your monthly price increases by £4 every April.
For those looking to upgrade their TV in time for the World Cup without making monthly payments, Amazon has launched the new Ember Artline TV. This 4K UHD model, designed in an art frame style, is priced at £719.99 (was £949.99) until May 20th.
However, Uswitch’s tech experts say the Sky Glass Air is “ideal” for soccer fans looking for “an excellent audiovisual experience at a relatively affordable price.” In their YouTube review, they say: “Sky Glass Air is lighter than other models, but it is anything but lightweight when it comes to technical specifications.
“The 4K quantum dot panel delivers vibrant colors and strong clarity for both streaming and live TV. Its automatic enhancement settings adjust the picture and sound based on what you’re watching, while there are a number of dedicated picture modes including Entertainment, Sports, Movies, Music, Vivid, and Extra Vivid.
“Audio is probably the most important compromise the Sky Glass Air makes compared to the second generation. It doesn’t have the built-in soundbar of its big brother, but it does have Dolby audio and a two-speaker stereo system built in to optimize sound.
“I experienced deep quality and clear conversations, so there were no muffled (or) harsh sounds.”
Nevertheless, they point out certain limitations of Sky Glass Air, stating: “If you’re used to a more immersive movie experience, you won’t get that experience with Sky Glass Air.
“Luckily, if you want the full movie experience, you can easily stream Dolby Atmos to your compatible soundbar.”
They go on to say, “One of the best features about using Sky Glass is the Sky OS interface, which brings together content from Sky channels and streaming services in one place. The more you watch and add to your playlists, the more Sky OS can learn and make better recommendations.”
“If you want access to the best TV content in the UK (and want a sleek, great-looking TV that delivers a great audio-visual experience at a relatively affordable price) then the Sky Glass Air is for you. However, if you’re a gamer or someone who takes their home cinema very seriously, you might consider taking the plunge and buying the Sky Glass Gen 2.”
