Mason Greenwood has spent the past two seasons at Marseille after leaving Manchester United permanently in 2024, but speculation is mounting over his next move.
Mason Greenwood has made it clear that he wants to stay at Marseille next season despite being linked with a move to the club. Greenwood, 24, is completing his second season in France after Manchester United sold him for a fee in the region of £27m.
The forward scored 16 goals and provided six assists for sixth-placed Marseille in 31 games and was named in Ligue 1’s Team of the Year on Monday. However, Greenwood was recently branded a “disgrace” by French World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry for his “pathetic” performance.
Marseille have fallen down the table recently and need to beat Rennes in their final game on Sunday to qualify for the Conference League. But despite links with Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, the former England international is determined to put things right at the Stade Velodrome next season.
“We’ve had some difficult times as a team this season, especially in the last few months,” Greenwood acknowledged at Monday’s awards ceremony. “But personally, I think we had a good season.

“I’m happy to win this award because there are some great players in this Team of the Year. Ligue 1 is a great league. We play great games, but in my opinion Ligue 1 is one of the best leagues I’ve ever played in. I hope I stay here.”
Greenwood left United in July 2024, having not featured for a Premier League club in over two years. In October 2022, while suspended by United, he was charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behavior. These charges were dropped in February 2023.
Greenwood has a contract with Marseille for three more seasons. But Dugarry, who played for the French giants from 1998 to 2000, dropped the 24-year-old earlier this month and told him to “go away.”
“You are the leader of this team and everyone is counting on you. When you are not there, everyone feels your absence,” Dugarry said on the Rothen s’enflamme podcast.
“So after all this sacrifice, what do you get in return? This? You’re a disgrace, get out. That’s the money you make for the club, but no one will cry for you.”
“What he did against Nantes was disgraceful. I saw him walking around. Sometimes I just looked at him and he was pretending. He doesn’t care.”
