Jamie Carragher is regarded as one of football’s top pundits and will be lending his experience and insight to local football club Marine, who have big plans for the future.
Jamie Carragher has been appointed as an advisor to non-league club Marine. Carragher, a Liverpool legend, will bring his wealth of experience to the Merseyside side, who have enjoyed rapid development over the last few years and currently play in the National League North.
Since 2021, Marine have been promoted twice, reached the FA Trophy semi-finals and famously hosted Tottenham in the third round of the FA Cup. The Mariners, based in the coastal town of Crosby, where Carragher lives, are aiming for further progress as plans for a new stadium take shape.
The former Liverpool defender, who works as a pundit for Sky Sports and CBS Sports, has previously offered support to Marine through sponsorship and is now part of the Rossett Park framework. Mr Carragher said: ‘Marin is a proper community football club with good people involved and a clear vision of where we want to go.
“I have enjoyed watching the progress the club has made over the last few years and I am delighted to be able to continue to support the club in an advisory capacity.”

Marine CEO James Leary added: “This is a great moment for Marine Football Club. Jamie is someone who genuinely cares about football and the local community and has followed closely on what we have built here over the last few years. His experience and relationships will be a huge help to the club as we continue to move Marine forward over the next few years.”
Carragher came forward to sponsor Marine in January 2021 after the club’s FA Cup home match against Premier League side Tottenham was played behind closed doors amid the global pandemic. The club announced it had lost around £100,000 in potential income.
Carragher decided to sponsor the Marines’ dugout and pre-match warm-up shirts through his charity, the JC23 Foundation. “We are grateful to Jamie and the JC23 Foundation for supporting this magical game for the Marine Corps,” said Marine Corps President Paul Leary.

“The JC23 Foundation does great work supporting young people in Liverpool and around the world and we are proud to partner with them on this special occasion.”
While announcing Mr Carragher’s appointment on Wednesday, Mr Marine also confirmed that a full planning application for the club’s new stadium is expected to be submitted to Sefton Council by September. Marine have played at their home base at Rossett Park (now called Marine Travel Arena for sponsorship purposes) since 1903.
Under coach Bobby Grant, the team finished 12th in the National League North Division in the 2025-26 season. It was Neil Young who led Marine to promotion in both 2022 and 2024, but last summer he stepped down after six-and-a-half years to become the club’s first director of football.
