Heartbreaking new details have emerged following the death of Nottinghamshire footballer Tyler Fairman, who tragically died in hospital following a hit-and-run incident in Arnold. Mr Fairman, 26, was celebrating the end of the season with his Woodthorpe Park Rangers teammates when his red Vauxhall Astra ran onto the pavement and struck a group of five people in Market Place.
The young soccer player was seriously injured in the incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 9th. Despite the tireless efforts of medical staff, he was sadly pronounced dead on the evening of Tuesday 12th May. A fundraising campaign was subsequently launched to support Mr Fairman’s family following his death, and as of Thursday morning (May 14), more than £11,000 had already been raised. The page described Fairman as “not only a devoted partner, but also a loving father to a beautiful son,” adding that he and his partner are expecting a baby girl “soon.”
The couple was together for eight years. A statement about the fundraiser read: “Lalaya (Mr Fairman’s partner) is currently in the final stages of her pregnancy and is facing a loss that no one should have to endure.
“As well as being a dedicated NHS worker, Laraya also runs her own beauty business, which she will now need to step down from.
“We want to alleviate any financial pressures she may face so she can focus on herself, her healing, and her baby without additional stress or worry.
“Every donation is greatly appreciated and will go towards supporting LaRayah and her children during this incredibly painful and difficult time.” You can donate here.
Police said four other people involved in the accident suffered minor injuries.
Woodthorpe Park Rangers confirmed that another team member and their manager were also among those involved in the incident.
Duane Anthony, 40, of Merton Road, Bulwell, was charged with five counts of attempted murder and a number of further driving offences.
Following Mr Fairman’s death, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed a murder investigation had been launched.
Anthony appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 11, where he met the victim’s family and friends in the general public hearing.
He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 8.
