Leicester icon Jamie Vardy is rumored to be making a sensational return to his former club despite signing for Serie A side Cremonese, and his wife has released a statement.

Rebecca Vardy has dismissed rumors that her husband Jamie could make an emotional return to Leicester City as “fake news”. The 39-year-old left the King Power Stadium last summer after 11 glorious years.

During his time at the Midlands, Vardy’s 200 goals helped Leicester win the Premier League, win the FA Cup and win promotion twice. After bidding an emotional farewell to the Foxes, Vardy signed for Serie A side Cremonese.

However, reports in Italy suggest that a return to Leicester is already on his mind. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the veteran forward is hoping to return to Leicester for just one more season.

However, his wife Rebecca has already denied this, writing on Instagram: “I’m worried it’s fake news.”

Vardy’s contract with Cremonese expires this summer, but the Italian side have the option to extend it by another year. The former England international has scored six goals in 27 appearances in Serie A this season, with the team battling for relegation for much of the season.

If Vardy were to return, Leicester would be in a completely different position. The Midlands side, who left the Premier League with the club, now find themselves in League One after a disastrous campaign that saw them deducted six points for breaching the EFL’s profit and sustainability regulations.

Commenting on his former club’s plight in an interview with Mirror Sport, Vardy said: “It’s tough. I watch as many games as physically possible, but it doesn’t feel good to watch. The main achievement of winning the title is that it gave the so-called smaller teams the ambition to challenge and the belief that they can do it.”

“Villa are a great example. They have built a good team and are competing at the top so they are showing that they can still do it. What we saw at Leicester is that they have a group of players who are a perfect fit for the team.”

“So I think if you get the right group, the right players for the position, the way you want to play and the right mentality, things can still happen.

“Our team is still in our WhatsApp group. We are always talking to each other, keeping in touch and seeing what the lads are doing. The bond we had back then was incredible.”

Asked if he thought he might retire anytime soon, Vardy replied: “I’m just a weirdo, I’m not normal. And like I said, if this leg says it’s okay, then it’s okay, and if they say it’s still okay, then I’m going to keep going.”

“I keep doing whatever I’m asked to do. It’s as simple as that. I get up on the train in the morning and go to the game again. It’s the same on game day. I do the best I can. I’ve always said that if my legs say I’ve had enough, that’s the day.”

“Fortunately, these boys (tapping their feet) are still telling me that I’m fine for now. And if I lose my leg, yeah, I still love soccer, but I’m not going to put myself through that.”

“I wouldn’t give any benefit for myself and I wouldn’t give any benefit wherever I played my football. So when they say that’s enough, it’s just one of those things for me, it’s Finito.”
