Wolves suffered a heavy defeat to Brighton on the south coast, with Rob Edwards harshly criticizing some players and claiming some in the team have already given up

Wolves manager Rob Edwards said he had “completely given up” on parts of his squad as part of a major clean-out of relegated teams.

The Molineux organization’s demise was confirmed a few weeks ago and it has been relegated to the bottom of the table for months. Edwards was brought on too late to replace Vitor Pereira, but the team continues to perform disastrously as the season draws to a close.

Their latest match was against Brighton, which they won 3-0. They took the lead within 35 seconds of the game thanks to a Jack Hinshelwood header and were leading by two points within five minutes. Lewis Dunk doubled the lead a few minutes later.

Wolves have been participating in the Premier League since 2018, and when they first joined the team they were challenging elite teams that threatened to qualify for the Champions League, but their decline has been noticeable.

Edwards quickly realized that certain players were being shown the door. When asked if he had given up on some members of his team, he said: “Yeah, sure. Some guys have to go, we’re at the bottom of the league. It’s embarrassing. They have to go.”

“We’ve got two games left so we just have to keep our heads down, keep our heads down and do whatever we have to do over the next few weeks and then we can really get to work. We know there are going to be big changes.”

In an effort to avoid Wolves becoming statistically the worst team in Premier League history, the Wolves manager, who had memorable wins over Liverpool and Aston Villa, was scathing in his criticism of Wolves’ performance at the Amex. Ms Edwards claimed they were not emotionally there.

“It’s incredibly frustrating. For the first five minutes it looked like we were still in a nice hotel,” he said. “We started the game badly. Before we even took the kick we were down 1-0 and then we defended in the corners really badly. Some guys didn’t do their job. We were two goals down in five minutes against a team that was already better than us. We had little to no chances.”

Asked about some poor decisions taken on the pitch, he added: “I can’t take responsibility, but we’ve been through a lot of that and that’s why we’re where we are. It was a crazy decision. There was a lack of concentration from the beginning and people didn’t feel valued about doing their jobs.”
