Arsenal’s dramatic win over West Ham United leaves them five points behind Man City in the Premier League title race.
It’s expected to be a tense end to the season for both Arsenal and Manchester City, with just a few games left to decide the Premier League winner. The Gunners secured a vital three points with a 1-0 win over West Ham United after a dramatic stoppage-time VAR intervention.
Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Brentford on Saturday afternoon cut Arsenal’s advantage at the top of the table to two points, leaving the Gunners with a narrow goal difference of just one goal.
Arsenal tried to hit back less than 24 hours later when they faced West Ham at the London Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s side struggled against relegation-battling Hammers.

In the closing stages of the match, Arsenal felt indebted to David Raya for keeping West Ham out of the game after denying Matheus Fernandes a goal. That save proved even more important when Leandro Trossard scored a vital goal in the 83rd minute to put Arsenal 1-0 up.
There was still time for second-half debate when West Ham believed they had equalized deep into second-half stoppage time. However, a VAR check revealed that Raya had been fouled in the build-up and the goal was ruled out for a choke.
The result means Arsenal now have a five-point lead over their rivals ahead of this week’s game against City. It ensures that their fate remains in their own hands.

There could still be some twists and turns in the race as the campaign draws to a close. With that in mind, here’s what happens for both parties.
arsenal
vs Burnley (H) – Monday 18th May (8pm)
vs Crystal Palace (A) – Sunday 24th May (4pm)
Arsenal should hope for a win against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium, as the Clarets are already set to lose the Championship.
The game at Selhurst Park will never be easy, but Arsenal could benefit from the Eagles’ participation in the UEFA Conference League final. That highlight comes just days after the clash with Arsenal, meaning Palace could be rotated in their bid for European glory.

man city
vs Crystal Palace (H) – Wednesday 13th May (8pm)
vs Bournemouth (A) – Tuesday 19th May (7.30pm)
vs Aston Villa (H) – Sunday 24th May (4pm)
City will host Palace in just a few days, starting a game in which Josep Guardiola’s side can pick up three points at home. Perhaps their toughest test will come in an away trip to Bournemouth, who are aiming to qualify for European football next season.
Like Arsenal, City will also play a team in the European final on the final day of the season, but Villa’s final will take place before the match at the Etihad Stadium. Therefore, fatigue may be involved.
