Barcelona announced the death of Hansi Flick’s father on Sunday afternoon, but the head coach will still be in the dugout against Real Madrid.
Manager Hansi Flick will take charge of Barcelona in El Clasico on Sunday night, despite his father’s death being announced on the day of the match.
A statement shared by the Spanish champion confirmed the passing of his 61-year-old father. “FC Barcelona and the entire Blaugrana family would like to send all their love to Hansi Flick following the passing of his father,” the statement read.
“We share your grief and our thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.”
Flick will be in the dugout for the game against Real Madrid, where both clubs will wear black armbands to pay tribute to his father. There will also be a minute’s silence before the match.

Barça’s rivals expressed their condolences to Flick in a statement: “Real Madrid, the president and the board deeply regret the death of Hansi Flick’s father.
“Real Madrid would like to express its condolences to all their families and loved ones. May they rest in peace.”
Barcelona will win their second consecutive La Liga title with a win or a draw against Real Madrid at Camp Nou.
Flick has won four trophies with Barca since being chosen by the Spanish giants to succeed Xavi in the summer of 2024.
