Arsenal icon Emmanuel Petit has given the green light to Real Madrid’s Aurelien Choameny to replace Casemiro at Manchester United. Choameni, 26, became the Brazil international’s effective successor at Madrid four years ago, arriving from Monaco a few months before Casemiro’s departure for Old Trafford, and could repeat that transition by following the same path.
The France international could face an uncertain future this summer after he was fined by Madrid for what coach Federico Valverde described as a “senseless fight” during training. United’s interest in Choameny dates back to his time at Monaco. A midfield overhaul is planned for this summer, and a move to Manchester could finally materialize.
Eduardo Camavinga is also reported to be a target for Madrid. However, Petit believes Choameni is the better choice to replace Casemiro.
He told BOYLE Sports: “Eduardo Camavinga can play in the same position as Casemiro, but he doesn’t have the same qualities. Camavinga is no longer in Real Madrid’s first eleven and I think he will leave the club this summer.”
“But if Manchester United want him instead of Casemiro, it has to be Aurélien Choameny. Choameny is better suited to this position than Camavinga. I think he is a good fit there.”

Petit went further, declaring Choameny the ideal candidate to replace Casemiro, and also considering Carlos Baleva, but did not specifically mention Coby Mainu. He said: “I can see other players like Carlos Baleva from Brighton and Hove Albion.”
“I think he is strong and I think he can improve even more. He has interesting qualities, but for me Choameni is the best.”

Still, it remains unclear whether the French international will be able to play this summer. Following recent disciplinary proceedings, Choameni apologized for his actions on social media.

He said: “What happened in training this week is unacceptable. I say this knowing that we are expected to set an example for young people, both in football and in school. No matter who is right or wrong, we should always seek the gentlest solution to resolve conflicts.”
“Above all, we are sorry for the image we have given the club. I know that everyone – fans, staff, team-mates, management – is deeply disappointed with the way this season has gone, but regret is not an excuse for everything. Real Madrid do not deserve these incidents, no matter which dressing room they are in. Especially since Real Madrid are the most talked about club in the world.”
“The internet loves to make up outlandish stories to make noise, so don’t believe everything you’re told or a false story. Anyway, this is not the time to find out who did what, who said what, who was right or wrong.
“I recognize and accept the club’s sanction. We are a family and although we may have disagreements from time to time, we must always put our goals above all else. I have apologized to the group and I would also like to apologize to all Madrid players.”
