Bruno Fernandes has been named Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year.

And Bunny Shaw completed Manchester’s double with a landslide victory, with her goal helping Manchester City win their first Women’s Super League title in 10 years.

Manchester United captain Fernandes is enjoying the best season of his life and won the award with 45 per cent of the votes. Fernandes and Arsenal’s Declan Rice dominated the men’s vote, but United’s assist king ultimately won by 28 votes.

Portuguese star Fernandes has provided 19 assists in the Premier League this season and is on pace to beat Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who jointly hold the record for 20 assists in a single season, with three games remaining.

Interestingly, Fernandes was the only Manchester United player to register to vote, making him the club’s first player to win this prestigious award since Wayne Rooney in 2010.

Rice finished second, with Bukayo Saka, David Raya and Gabriel all receiving votes from FWA’s more than 900 members. Manchester City’s top scorer Erling Haaland finished third and is expected to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot award.

City striker Shaw has won the award for the second time thanks to an incredible goal rush that also saw him top the WSL goal charts. She also had a fantastic season, helping City win their first WSL title in 10 years following years of Chelsea domination.

Last year’s winner, Arsenal’s Alessia Russo, came in second place, while Chelsea star Lauren James came in third.
