Bournemouth have confirmed that Alex Jimenez will not feature in their next game against Fulham after a post about the right-back circulated on social media. Cherries said in a statement that it was aware of the post and understood the gravity of the matter. They added that an internal investigation has been launched.
A statement read: “AFC Bournemouth is aware that a post regarding right-back Alex Jimenez has been circulating on social media. The club understands the seriousness of the matter and is currently investigating. As a result, Alex will not be included in the squad for tomorrow’s Premier League game against Fulham and the club will not be making any further comment at this time.”
Jimenez initially joined Bournemouth on loan from AC Milan, before making the move permanent in January. This season, he has played in 31 league games and scored one goal.
He has appeared in every Premier League game for the Cherries since November, appearing in the starting XI for all but one.
The defender started his career in Real Madrid’s youth ranks, but never made any first-team appearances for the Spanish giants.
He moved to AC Milan in the summer of 2023 and struggled to break into the first team until joining Bournemouth. He will remain tied to the Cherries until 2031 as he signed a five-year contract upon his permanent transfer.
Bournemouth are currently sixth in the table with three games remaining, but still have a chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
They have never played in Europe in their 127-year history.
A new permanent manager will need to be appointed in the summer, with Andoni Iraola set to step down as head coach at the end of the season.
Iraola is believed to be the favorite to replace the soon-to-be-vacated Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace, who will also step down at the end of the campaign.
Bournemouth will be desperate to pick up all three points against Fulham to boost their hopes of playing in Europe next season.
They finish the season with a tough home test against Manchester City before facing Nottingham Forest on the final day.
